Album Review
BRDIGUNG were founded in 2002. The band members seem to have shed the satirical monikers such as “Sir cum a lot”, “Porno II”, “General Anal” and “Admiral Prengel”, which made me look for a pun in their band title. I guess it’s for “Germanification” - with their form of Street Punk with some metal elements. Since their songs are in German, I will leave it to more capable, native or fluent speakers of the language to decide if their lyrics carry on with the satire. Even though I’m neither of those, I am betting that they are, or at least most of them. ‘Kein Kompromiss’ (No Compromise) is their album of 2008 re-released under their new record label. Their new album ‘Tot aber lebendig’ is released on the same day; this review though concerns the re-release, the new album I will review individually also.
The metal elements sit particularly great in ‘Selbstmordtraum’, a slower song, though still intense and energetic. It’s more rock and metal than punk and metal. It doesn’t stand out just by its different nature to the majority of other songs; it’s a truly outstanding track even if this was the prevalent trend of the album and not the other. Where they play punk, it’s a straightforward no bullshit punk. It kicks you out of your seat to pogo. The songs are catchy but not overbearingly so. Where they mix it with metal, mostly this is evident in the second half of the album, the fusion comes out well, the metal riffs are interesting, and the punk energises them as a shot of Red Bull mixed with vodka. ‘Keine Kompromiss’ is a good, solid album with just right kick in the gut and a good ol’ punk fun.
