Album Review

LILLIAN AXE, a band hailing from Louisiana was founded way back in 1983. They’re set between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with their latest addition into their album catalogue, entitled as ‘XI: The Days Before Tomorrow’. The songs are said to be “...your face songs of truth, war, neglect, Mother Nature, the innocent victim, the state of the world, current issues and spirituality.” This album also ushers in a new vocalist, Brian C Jones.

The “betweeness” of music doesn’t come out as a plus, where it concerns Hard Rock its reach to Metal make it uncertain which forfeits the fun of Rock’n’Roll and where it concerns Heavy Metal it’s far too lukewarm, lacks in oomph and just doesn’t get to go off the ground more than one inch. Some songs are outright cringe worthy such as ‘Great Divide’, clichéd musically and lyrically, its attempt at being epic is quite embarrassing. ‘Take The Bullet’ will make you have fun with guessing where you’ve heard the verses’ melody before, however it builds a nice contrast with the chorus. If you wanted something anthemic, look to ‘Bow Your Head’ but again, don’t expect miracles. In fact, if you do come across this album approach it only with (very) small expectations, only then you won’t be disappointed. It’s so mediocre it’ll be flashed out of your consciousness soon enough anyway. I wouldn't waste money on it...
