By Sunday, the festival rhythm had fully taken over. The accumulated kilometres were beginning to make themselves felt in my legs, yet WGT has never been solely about music. One of the reasons I return year after year is the extraordinary cultural programme surrounding the concerts. Lectures, exhibitions, performances, churches, museums, fashion shows, readings, and art installations all contribute to making Wave-Gotik-Treffen something far beyond a conventional music festival.

After a surprisingly sensible ending to the previous day, Saturday quickly reminded me that Wave Gotik Treffen is less a festival and more a marathon disguised as a cultural event. Armed with a fully charged camera, questionable amounts of sleep, and a renewed determination to make the most of the weekend, I once again found myself heading toward Clara-Zetkin-Park.

This year’s Wave Gotik Treffen began a little differently for me. While my official festival journey started on Friday, I had actually arrived in Leipzig already on Thursday. The original plan was ambitious enough: pick up my wristband, perhaps attend one of the opening events at Moritzbastei or spend the evening at one of the AGRA parties. Reality, however, had other plans.

Day three of the legendary festival arrived once again far too early. The weather promised a rain-free day and a look into the running order of Sunday sparked enough joy to dive in head-first into the last festival day.

With a fabulous Day one in the books, it was time for the second day of unadulterated fun on the storied grounds of the Zeppelinfeld. The weather forecast had improved massively, showing only tiny spells of showers, so nothing stood in the way of getting an earful of excellent music.
