the subways whenimwithyouIn 2005, teenage trio THE SUBWAYS made a phenomenal breakthrough with their gold-certified debut album ‘Young For Eternity’. It set them on a path filled with highlights, including their cult classic ‘Rock & Roll Queen’, which became a staple on Rock radio and streaming playlists (now surpassing 100 million streams). The band embarked on extensive headline tours across the globe, particularly in the UK and Germany, playing 1,059 shows in over 40 countries - and much more. They also opened for icons such as OASIS, FOO FIGHTERS, and AC/DC, and played nearly every major festival imaginable - from Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage to Reading and Leeds, as well as international giants like Rock am Ring / Rock im Park, Lollapalooza, and Sziget.

Twenty years later, and five albums into their career, THE SUBWAYS are marking their 20th anniversary with ‘When I’m With You’, a collection of singles and fan favourites from their journey so far - plus two brand-new tracks that point toward the future. They are also announcing a major UK and European tour titled “The Subways For Eternity” to celebrate the milestone in proper style.

‘When I’m With You’ opens with their debut single ‘Oh Yeah’, and the tracklist captures the energy and momentum of a live show - the setting where the band truly thrives. The full arc of their journey is reflected, from early gems like ‘With You’, ‘I Want To Hear What You Have Got To Say’, and ‘Kalifornia’, to mid-era fan favourites and live staples such as ‘We Don’t Need Money To Have A Good Time’ and ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’, right through to standout tracks from their acclaimed 2023 album ‘Uncertain Joys’, including the title track and ‘You Kill My Cool’.

The compilation closes with the timeless ‘Rock & Roll Queen’, a song with massive cultural impact - it featured in Guy Ritchie’s ‘RocknRolla’, the iconic teen drama ‘The OC’, and even soundtracked a major Rimmel campaign starring Kate Moss. One of their biggest promo moments came with a performance on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ in the US. That was just the beginning - they also rocked ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ and ‘The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ with ‘Oh Yeah’.

The compilation also features two new tracks: ‘I Need To Feel You Closer’, first premiered during last year’s live shows, and ‘Passenger’s Side’. These fresh recordings also mark the album debut of drummer Camille Phillips, who joined founding members Billy Lunn (vocals/guitar) and Charlotte Cooper (vocals/bass) in 2023, after original drummer Josh Morgan stepped away for family reasons. The collection showcases the band’s collaborations with some of the most influential producers in the industry, including Butch Vig (NIRVANA, FOO FIGHTERS), Stephen Street (THE SMITHS, BLUR), and Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds (ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, THE CORAL). Tracks from their self-titled album and ‘Uncertain Joys’ were produced by Billy Lunn himself.

Billy says: “Reaching 20 years is special to us because it means we’ve been able to do what we love for so long. But the true joy of the past two decades has come from the friends we’ve made along the way. Seeing familiar and new faces in the crowd is everything to us. We’re nothing without our fans, and we love that THE SUBWAYS’ songs belong to them just as much as to us. We want to celebrate this milestone with them - and we can’t wait to do it in the chaos of the mosh pits on tour!”

Charlotte adds: “We’ve been on this wild ride for 20 years now, and I’ve really enjoyed looking back on everything we’ve been part of. I’ve loved it all - from sweaty little gigs to massive festival stages. Seeing the world. Making albums I’m so proud of. Building lifelong friendships. We’re incredibly excited to celebrate with the fans who’ve stuck with us all this time - the ones who’ve been coming to shows for years, and the ones now bringing their kids! We’re endlessly grateful, and we’re the luckiest people. See you at the front!”

Ian Broudie reflects: “It was a great joy working with The Subways on their debut album ‘Young for Eternity’. They were a unique young band with amazing songs and incredible energy, and I’m very proud of the brilliant record we made together.”

‘When I’m With You’ is available for pre-order now and will be released on double vinyl, CD, and digital formats. “The Subways For Eternity” Tour will take the band across the UK and Europe, including a special stop at London’s Electric Ballroom. In recent years, they’ve continued to bring their explosive shows to stages across the world, with co-headline tours alongside THE ENEMY and ASH, and festival appearances from Truck Festival to Hurricane. This summer, they’re making selected returns to festivals - including a UK show at Y Not? Festival on August 2.
