ANIQO, the musical project of Berlin and Lisbon-based singer-songwriter and visual artist Anita Goß, returns with new album ‘Earth, Love And Variations’ out November 6th via La Double Vie. The record was produced with Bill Ryder-Jones in the UK & today ANIQO is sharing new single / video ‘Time To Heal’. ANIQO is also set to play shows in London and Berlin later this year.Song and film blossom into a fairy tale in which initial fear and uncertainty are overcome by the powerful feeling of connection. ‘Time To Heal’ is, for Anita Goß aka ANIQO herself, the defining song of the album. Orchestral, intricately interwoven and built from dramatic layers of strings, organs and wind instruments, the song unfolds like a slowly growing ceremony of devotion and love.
In doing so, ANIQO’s voice carries the listeners through a portal into the realm of the open heart: “For me, ‘Time To Heal’ already became a small miracle during the writing process. It is the song in which I followed a feeling down to the smallest detail - while writing, in the studio, and now also with this film. It is about the euphoric state of being in love: about passion and devotion, about lightness and joy, and about that almost weightless feeling of flying that comes with it.”
The accompanying film was shot in Sintra, amid the fairy-tale landscape of the natural park near Lisbon, Portugal. ANIQO took on the concept, direction and production herself, with James Harvey behind the camera and the support of her friends on location. The film is a homage to connection, friendship and love in all their variations.
Alongside the already fairy-tale-like settings, classic fairy tales, Alice in Wonderland and the visually powerful worlds of Tim Burton served as inspiration. White dresses, mystical figures emerging from the forest and intense moments of encounter shape the film’s visual language. The film develops from an initial feeling of mistrust, through a gradual coming together, into an exuberant celebration of love in the midst of a surreal fairy-tale world.
ANIQO returns - quiet, clear, and with a determination born out of silence. Her new album ‘Earth, Love And Variations’, produced with Bill Ryder-Jones in the UK, is a compelling mid-career work that unfolds like an inner compass for the life of its creator Anita Goß, while at the same time offering us listeners new perspectives for our own individual paths through life.
The album takes its starting point in a period of retreat and reorientation. Its opening song, I KNOW, already carries within it the insight that runs like a thread through the entire work: that everything begins in the self. Trust, love, healing - none of these can be found outside without first being anchored within. From here, ‘Earth, Love And Variations’ gradually opens up, following the different movements and manifestations of love, change and connection.
With ‘Earth, Love And Variations’, ANIQO opens a sonic chapter that feels both intimate and cosmic. It is not an album that follows a rigid concept, but one that has developed organically out of life phases, retreats and conscious decisions. And yet beneath the surface lies a clear idea: the connection between grounding and transcendence, between body and feeling, between individual experience and universal movement. “Earth”: earth as ground, but also as reality, as planet. “Love”: the force that often enables us to make the impossible possible. The “Variations”, finally, as the infinite forms in which the two encounter one another.
While Anita Goß’s debut album ‘Birth’ (2022) was still more strongly shaped by melancholy and searching as its primary state, the new material sounds noticeably brighter. This brightness is not an aesthetic choice, but the result of a lived transformation. ANIQO has consciously freed herself from destructive patterns, has - as the phrase goes - turned toward the “light”, not in an esoteric sense, but as a radical turn toward authenticity. You can hear it. The songs breathe more; they carry a new lightness without losing depth.
Musically, ANIQO continues to move within her own highly particular coordinate system of art-folk, pop and spiritual soundscapes. Her arrangements follow a kind of calm discipline that has become rare: every element is given space, nothing pushes itself to the fore. Voice and instruments meet at eye level, circle one another, dissolve again. This openness continues in the lyrics.
Reduced, almost fragmentary, they invite listeners to find their own meanings. ANIQO does not write simple answers - she opens doors to an intensive engagement with the world and with oneself. At the centre remains the theme of love in all its states: self-love, romantic love, familial bonds, and the question of a universal, unconditional form.
A decisive share in the sound of the album comes from the collaboration with British musician and producer Bill Ryder-Jones, with whom ANIQO recorded in West Kirby in 2024 and 2025. The two have achieved an intuitive dialogue. Ryder-Jones expands the songs carefully, adding strings, guitars and textures without overlaying their essence. It is a process of letting go - and of trust.
One particular appeal of ‘Earth, Love And Variations’ lies in its internal dramaturgy: the songs are not loosely strung together, but follow an emotional timeline that developed almost in parallel with the process of their creation. After the opening ‘I Know’, this quiet self-assurance, the album widens step by step into a multi-layered narrative about love, risk, rupture and healing.
‘Time To Heal’ marks a first high point - a floating, almost weightless song about being in love. Yet behind the euphoria of taking off together, a second level is already hidden: the pact with oneself to accept one’s own wholeness, light and shadow sides alike. It is a song that seeks intimacy not only in the other, but anchors it in the self.
With ‘The Turn’, the second single, the focus is on setting out, on the deliberate yes to risk, on overcoming fear. Sonically, too, the song pushes forward and is one of the album’s most driving moments. The image of sailing - wind, water, open horizon - becomes a metaphor for this state between loss of control and freedom.
‘Another Life’, written earlier and later inserted into the dramaturgy, feels like a link between worlds - a pause before the album enters its central phase. It is followed by ‘What Does Your Heart Say’, one of the last songs written, which feels like a quiet but determined approach to this insight. At the centre of the album is ‘United In Origin’ - a piece that formulates the idea of universal love most clearly. Here, what matters most deeply to ANIQO condenses: the idea of a connection that points beyond individual stories and the ego.
With ‘Constructed Reality’ comes the deliberate break: a “disruptor”, as ANIQO herself calls it. Distorted guitars, psychedelic elements, an almost chaotic impulse - the song calls into question everything that has been built up before. Precisely for that reason, it becomes a necessary turning point. Out of this rupture emerges. ‘Dreams For Real’, one of the album’s most vulnerable moments. Here, the gaze turns back toward childhood and youth; personal memories come into sharper relief than before. It is a radical laying bare, a return to the inner core.
With ‘Sun Of God’, the view opens again - away from the self, toward a larger whole. The song describes the letting go of roles and ego, a turn toward an open, non-judgemental other. It is one of the album’s central tracks, carried by an almost spiritual clarity.
The closing track is ‘The Sense Is A River’, a quiet, peaceful fading out. A conscious letting go that brings melancholy and calm together, a letting flow. ‘Earth, Love And Variations’ will be released on La Double Vie, the label founded by Gloria de Oliveira - embedded in a loose collective of artists who support one another instead of submitting to the conventional music market. It is a fitting frame for a work that consciously turns against egocentrism and places its trust in connection instead.
It is an album that eludes any quick categorisation. It is personal and at the same time universal, reduced and yet multi-layered, grounded and full of a sense of departure. Or, as ANIQO puts it herself: “If I can hold myself, I can hold everything else, too. ” This is precisely where the special power of this music lies - and its loving invitation to us.
