PETER MURPHY, the legendary frontman of BAUHAUS, will have his remarkable solo career from 2001 to 2017 celebrated with ‘Laying On New Waves: The 2000s Collection’, a comprehensive archival collection due for release on 4 December via Madfish/Edel. Available as a nine-LP vinyl box set or a nine-CD and DVD box set, the release brings together acclaimed studio albums, rare remixes and extensive live recordings spanning more than 15 years. The collection documents an extraordinary period in the career of one of Alternative music’s most distinctive and uncompromising artists. From atmospheric studio albums and experimental reinterpretations to landmark live performances, it offers an extensive overview of Murphy’s work in the 21st century. Both deluxe editions are housed in premium, slipcase-style boxes and include an extensive hardcover book featuring new writing, exclusive material and rare archive photographs.
The nine-LP vinyl box set brings together six key releases from 2001 to 2017, comprising four studio albums and two live albums: ‘Dust’, ‘Unshattered’, ‘Ninth’, ‘Lion’, ‘Alive Just For Love’ and ‘Bare-Boned And Sacred’. All recordings have been newly remastered for this edition. Notably, ‘Dust’, ‘Unshattered’, ‘Alive Just For Love’ and ‘Bare-Boned And Sacred’ will be released on vinyl for the first time.
The accompanying hardcover book features an extensive essay by acclaimed author and broadcaster John Robb, forewords by ANOHNI and Murphy’s long-time collaborator Youth, and an exclusive new interview with Murphy. It also includes previously unpublished family photographs, rare studio and live images, and archival material documenting this significant chapter in his career.
The nine-CD and DVD edition offers an even broader perspective on Murphy’s output during this period. Alongside the four studio albums, it includes ‘Remixes From Lion’, featuring mixes by Youth and Richard Thorne, as well as three substantial live releases: ‘Mr Moonlight Tour - 35 Years of Bauhaus’, ‘Alive Just For Love’ and ‘Bare-Boned And Sacred’. The ‘Alive Just For Love’ performance is spread across two CDs, with the second containing bonus material.
The DVD features the complete ‘Mr Moonlight Tour - 35 Years of Bauhaus’ concert, capturing Murphy and his band performing landmark BAUHAUS songs alongside material from his solo catalogue.
Like the vinyl edition, the CD and DVD box set includes a hardcover book featuring John Robb’s new essay, forewords by ANOHNI and Youth, a brand-new interview with Murphy, rare and previously unpublished family photographs, and archival images from live performances and studio sessions. The book is presented with a carefully considered design befitting this comprehensive retrospective.
