The Hu - “Warrior Chant Tour” - Support: Skáld
Few bands have managed to create such a distinctive bridge between traditional culture and modern heavy music as THE HU. Hailing from Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian quartet have taken their self-described “Hunnu Rock” far beyond their homeland, combining thunderous metal riffs with traditional instruments, horsehead fiddles, throat singing and ancient Mongolian vocal techniques. The result is a sound that feels both deeply rooted in history and completely at home on the international metal stage.
Since forming in 2016, THE HU have built an impressive global following, performing at major festivals, touring with bands such as IRON MAIDEN and even receiving an invitation from METALLICA to contribute a version of ‘Through the Never’. Their music has also found its way into major productions including ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ and Netflix’s ‘One Piece’. Yet despite their international success, THE HU have remained firmly committed to their cultural identity. Their lyrics are performed entirely in Mongolian, allowing the band to share their heritage on their own terms rather than adapting it for an international audience.
Their current album ‘HUN’ promises to explore that heritage even further, drawing on Mongolian history, mythology and folklore while pushing their heavy, anthemic sound into new territory. Live, this material should fit naturally alongside the band’s already powerful catalogue, with pounding percussion, throat-sung chants and traditional instrumentation creating an atmosphere that feels closer to a communal ritual than a conventional rock concert.
Adding another layer of ancient mythology to the evening will be French neofolk trio SKÁLD. Drawing heavily on Old Norse poetry, mythology and traditional instrumentation, SKÁLD create atmospheric compositions built around Nordic fiddles, harps, lyres, horns and multiple vocalists. Their forthcoming album ‘Ørlǫg’ delves into themes of fate, origins and Norse mythology, promising a set that moves between haunting intimacy and powerful, choir-like intensity.
With THE HU and SKÁLD bringing two very different cultural traditions together through heavy music, folklore and storytelling, this promises to be a particularly atmospheric evening at Rockhal - one where ancient voices and modern sounds meet in a truly distinctive live experience.
