MIDGE URE will release a brand-new best-of collection, ‘Chapters: The Best Of’, on 13 November 2026 via Chrysalis Records / Bertus. Bringing together iconic tracks from his work with VISAGE, ULTRAVOX, his solo career and collaborations with other artists, the collection features newly created 2026 Stereo Mixes alongside previously unreleased studio recordings and a series of exclusive remixes.Known above all for his work with ULTRAVOX and as the co-writer of BAND AID’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’, the award-winning musician has enjoyed a career spanning several decades. His musical journey began in Glasgow before he moved to London in 1977 and joined Glenn Matlock’s RICH KIDS. A year later, he co-founded VISAGE with RICH KIDS drummer Rusty Egan and Steve Strange. The line-up was completed by John McGeoch, Barry Adamson and Dave Formula of MAGAZINE, as well as ULTRAVOX keyboardist Billy Currie. Their second single, ‘Fade To Grey’, became a Top 10 hit and features on ‘Chapters’ in a newly recorded version.
In 1979, Ure joined THIN LIZZY on their US tour, stepping in for Gary Moore. A year later, he co-wrote ‘Yellow Pearl’ with Phil Lynott, which subsequently became the theme tune to ‘Top of the Pops’. A newly recorded version of the track is included on the new collection. Also in 1980, Billy Currie invited Ure to join ULTRAVOX. The following six years saw the band achieve considerable success, with two Top 3 and seven Top 20 singles, alongside two Top 5 and three Top 10 albums.
Throughout the 1980s, URE released a series of successful solo albums while continuing his work with ULTRAVOX. Together with Bob Geldof, he was also instrumental in the creation and organisation of BAND AID and LIVE AID. His solo successes include the No. 2 album ‘The Gift’, which spawned the No. 1 single ‘If I Was’. ‘Chapters’ also features collaborations with artists including KATE BUSH on ‘Sister And Brother’ and former JAPAN member Mick Karn on ‘After A Fashion’.
Following his recently released and highly acclaimed studio album ‘A Man Of Two Worlds’, ‘Chapters’ offers a new perspective on material from URE’s extensive back catalogue. Alongside a selection of classic solo tracks, the 3CD Deluxe Edition features new stereo mixes as well as newly recorded studio versions of VISAGE’s ‘Fade To Grey’ and Phil Lynott’s ‘Yellow Pearl’, both of which Ure originally helped to create.
The collection will be available in a range of formats, including 2LP, 1CD, a 3CD Deluxe Edition and a limited Super Deluxe Edition featuring a Blu-ray and splatter vinyl.
CD1 contains 17 tracks, including two bonus tracks not included on the standard edition. CD2 features ten newly commissioned remixes by artists and producers who have worked with MIDGE URE over the years, including soundtrack composer Craig Armstrong, Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen of JAPAN, Wolfgang Flür of KRAFTWERK, and Chris Payne of VISAGE and GARY NUMAN. CD3 contains new instrumental mixes of all 17 tracks from CD1.
