DEICIDE were formed in 1987 under the name AMON and changed their name in 1989. They are among the most well-known and successful Death Metal bands from Florida, US. Lyrically, topics like Satanism or criticism of religion are covered. So far, they have released eleven studio records, the latest one being ‘In The Minds Of Evil’. Since their previous records were not always cheerfully acclaimed by fans and media, ‘In The Minds Of Evil’ returns to a more basic and grooving Death Metal and does not make any compromises. Eleven titles make up for 36 minutes of aggression and brutality. The opener and title track ‘In The Minds Of Evil’ is very monotonous, includes growled as well as screamed vocals and a remarkable chorus.
Occasional guitar solos add melodies and add slightly more variety to the otherwise harsh and unforgiving music. ‘Thou Begone’ is a drum-dominated track with a frequent use of blast-beats. ‘Godkill’ shifts between slower as well as faster passages and is driven by guitars. The title also indicates that the band’s dislike for religion is still a prominent topic. In general, the songs pretty much veer into another – there are mostly slight variants in tempo or occurring melodies. This does not necessarily make the album boring, since all titles are of equal quality, yet there are no (personal) highlights. Yet, this album is definitely of interest for any fan of blasting Death Metal.
