‘Innere Apokalypse’ is the first long-player for the project GEDANKENRASEN since their founding. The tracks on the album are songs that were made during the years 2006 up to now, 2011. First of all, I have to say that you cannot hear that the tracks on the CD were not produced at the time. It all fits together like it was planned to do so. However this doesn't mean that the sound is always as good as it should be. At some parts it sounds a little off - like the parts of the songs (due to a heavy mixture of different sounds) were not mixed right. It just sounds a little weird, not planned.
The songs are mostly sung in German. The vocals show a lot of variety, giving different sorts of singing to underline a certain message. When it comes to the texts the band is dealing with..let's just say they are using a lot of “well-known gothic themes”. In this case, however, the band managed to find a good mixture of “dark themes” and still staying seriously without being ridiculous. Some parallels, which are pretty obvious, can be found to the band DAS ICH. This especially covers the structure of the songs and the overall sound of the album. Unfortunately, getting inspiration by a band doesn't always mean that you're reaching the expectations. The songs are sometimes not mature enough, like they are missing the final touch. Maybe this little flaw will be fixed by the time the band releases their next album.
Despite the different quality of the sound, the tracks are actually pretty danceable (ignoring the sometimes too long classical parts). This is definitely something worth mentioning in a positive way. Also, when you keep in your mind that ‘Innere Apokalypse’ is GEDANKENRASEN's first CD, the flaws I just mentioned do not influence the fact that the CD is not bad at all. Nice vocals, great variety and good lyrics contribute to my overall positive impression of this album. Especially the song ‘Ich will brennen’ (no, it is not a cover of the well-known ASP song) convinced me of the talent of this band. Keep working and the next album will get positive response as well.
