Album Review

What I found extremely striking about the songs on 28 years old singer/songwriter JAKE ROEDER’s debut album ‘Finally’ was the honesty inheriting his words. There is a sort of a transparent personality within every of the eleven songs you’ll find on the album but something sets him apart from many of his peers. It never appears in any way cheesy to me about what he sings in his songs. It’s like I said before honest. Wanna hear a little bit more about the music itself? Here you go: ‘Too Far Gone’ is opening the album and inside the arrangement which has a bit of a relaxed feeling to it you’ll find certain friskiness and the joy of playing is palpable in this song in my opinion. With a longing feeling inside the strings of the acoustic guitar starts the next song ‘Meant to get you Back’ that besides its gentle drum accent slips in percussions into the rhythmic section. I guess I don’t need to tell you anything about the mood ‘Miss You’ is enveloped but even the instrumentation alone with the combined fragility of piano and acoustic guitar makes your hairs stand on and for sure. Later on the song is complemented by slow scuffling electronic drums.

I listened to ‘Fly’ only once to know that this would become my favourite album tracks. Both the hovering atmospheres and the play way the respective instruments play their ‘melodies got me right away “I’m gonna fly over the edge to another world where everyone knows me / I’m gonna fly over the edge to another world where I’ll be ok.” ‘When will I’ concludes the album. Jake’s voice only gets company by muffled and processed keys. To cut  along story short: If you’re sick of the cheesy stuff you get to hear on every corner these days you should check out ‘Finally’ in any case. A fresh and unspent album!
