Album Review

Hey there I said “To be Continued” and here we are again. MIDEVIL reissue number two ‘Expiration Date’ was originally released in 1997, the year of Lady Di’s death and Tony Blair’s swear-in. This reissue includes the ‘Forced To Believe EP’ from 1999, so it’s basically a full length plus an EP (awesome!). At this point I listened to the whole shebang about a few times and talk to Joe and Jon over Facebook (the coolest use for social media is surprisingly social).

There are some gems like ‘Hands Across The Void’, ‘The Sounds Of Infinity I’, ‘This World’ and ‘Expiration Date’ that were on the demo and were re-recorded for this full-length, new material were ‘Be Afraid’, ‘The Game’ and the instrumental ‘Zonk’ all the rest is from the ‘Forced To Believe EP’. This bands active time was roughly seven years but they managed to release three records completely DIY and opened for bands like MEGADETH, DIO and TESTAMENT. MIDEVIL sadly disbanded after the EP but there are still a few things tom say about ‘Expiration Date’ before I send you guys and gals back into the cold, rainy night.

My favourites so far are: ‘This World’, a song with a nice ‘Battery’-like touch, here and there vocal influences of both Mustaine and Hetfield are felt and heard (Mitchell’s guitar-work also heavily reminds of MEGADETH). ‘Hands Across The Void’ is a hands down Thrash Metal masterpiece, a beautiful bastard of MEGADETH, ANNIHILATOR and rough times METALLICA (I am so sorry to compare MIDEVIL to METALLICA but maybe I recompense with saying that I absolutely love Hetfield’s guys). The last song to be mentioned here is ‘The Nothingness’, this song is really a thing of its own a melodic Thrash song, full of transitions and nice hooks but most of all a big surprise because it is a mixture of complex Thrash Metal paired with moments of thrash (vocal- wise and Jon’s rhythm guitar sound a lot like ALICE IN CHAINS).

In summary, I’m glad to have met these guys online after reading about MIDEVIL, class guys and an awesome band that should be among the big four fame-wise. Be sure to check them out online (write “Midevil Thee Almighty” and enjoy). Oh and don’t forget to buy the albums over at https://www.heavenandhellrecords.com/.
