Formed in 2008 by John von Ahlen, this Melbourne based project takes up the cause of covering his favourite Electronic Pop classics of the eighties. He composes songs as well but sticks true to his love for the sound of the eighties. Up to now, five albums, twelve singles/ EPs, eleven contributions to compilation albums and four mega mixes have been released.
I have to admit that I often have problems with cover versions of songs I really like. For this album John von Ahlen picked up several songs of the eighties and wrapped them in an easy going Synth-Pop sound. And when I write “easy going”, I didn’t mean it in a positive way. It is so horrible superficial, that it’s not doing justice on the original as they lost their depth. To me it sounds like a mash up album made for parties, where lots of alcohol is consumed, and thus it is easier to put this album in the player, than picking up single songs from 10 albums. Well, but I’m sure that there are people who will love this album.
The album is available as a strictly up to 500 copies limited. The download album contains different songs.
