Album Review

The American project XENTRIFUGE was given birth to in 2005 and released the debut album entitled `Light Extinguished´ two years later. At that time, critics attested an extremely raw form of Industrial-influenced Electro culminating in so-called “Terror-EBM” or “Apocelectro”. By releasing `Converting Infinity´ - which is the second full-length release - mastermind Chris X put all his energy in the recording of 10 raging tracks following the tradition of the debut album and resulting in a threatening atmosphere that represents a cold world without hope and warmth. Sounds like a delicacy for dance-willing lovers of brute beats, doesn’t it? Therefore, the listeners of `Converting Infinity´ will have to wrap up warmly as the tracks aren’t for the faint-hearted and require a certain affinity to monotonous jackhammer-like pieces.

`Dormant´ opens up the apocalypse in a comparatively restrained manner, but soon turns into an evil track containing pulsating beats as well as extremely distorted vocals that don’t seem to come out of a human throat. Generally, the album continuously adherents to its principles which speaks for a confident style and originality but also displays a lack of alternation. Every now and then, there are some playful and rather melodic synth parts as heard on `Black Horizon´ and the title track `Converting Infinity´. The latter comes as a machine gun fire that is only interrupted by the aforementioned keyboard lines and is supposed to provide a sweaty dance inferno leaving everyone exhausted. Though the album isn’t the stuff I usually listen to at home, I have to admit that some of these brute bombshells could raise my interest. To arrive at the conclusion, `Converting Infinity´ is recommendable for those who enjoy all the other harsh Electro representatives.
