E-Guitars, Bass and Amps to the max, here comes the Area 4 and it brings five new acts that will stir up quite some dust in Lüdinghausen.
Scars on Broadway
SCARS ON BROADWAY is the long anticipated result of the collaboration between guitarist and front man Daran Malakian and drummer John Dolmayn, both known for their work in the platinum rewarded Grammy winner band SYSTEM OF A DOWN. Since last September, the both have recorded their songs in the studio. More than two dozen songs have been recorded of which you’ll find 12 to 14 on the long awaited album, estimated for a July release.
Dredg
DREDG made the Progrock in the Pop socially acceptable with their two albums “El Cielo” and “Catch without Arms”. It is said that DREDG, the partly experimental alternative / progressive band will have a new album out in 2008. Now they are confirmed for the Area4, the first new songs have been sighted on the internet and we’re very curious about how it will continue after ‘Catch without Arms’
Smoke Blow
More than 2 ½ years lay between the last album ‘Dark Angel’ and the new work of the legendary Kiel based sextet. No question for such a passionate band: At the end of the day, there has to be a record that impressively exceeds all the previous ones. Considering such genre classics as ‘777 Bloodrock’ (2000) or ‘German Angst’ (2003) this was no easy thing to do, yet they succeeded. ‘Colossus’ was said to become history as the ultimate SMOKE BLOW album. Jack Letten & Co. are presenting themselves in absolute top condition over the course of the whole album. Hit comes after hit ‘Colossus’ reveals itself as a cohesive body of work, as one absolutely timeless hit single which fuses all the genres of Punk Rock, self confident and sometimes with a wink. Still the motto of the band is: Never stand still, always eager to exceed oneself, only provide the best.
Bloodlights
A new musical day dawns in the world of rock thanks to the Oslo based BLOODLIGHTS. This is the newest project of the former GLUECIFER guitarist and songwriter Captain Poon. On their self-titled debut, those guys show their penchant for melodic, guitar-driven jams and present us twelve finest Norwegian songs. The strong riffs and fast beats remind of the glorious days of Hard Rock, when raddled jeans reined the wastelands and a good tuned guitar was just as dangerous as a sawn-off shotgun. First-class examples for this are: ‘Bloodlights’ the title-giving ode to the gluttony and the furious neck breaker ‘Hammer and the Wheel’.
Beta Satan
BEAT SATAN consists of band members of the Danish band Q.K.R Hansen, Kned, Johannes & Morten. Who is responsible for what remains unknown however. It’s hard to find some facts about this band – they seem to stay covered for that matter. The only clear thing is that they’ve signed a record deal with Crunchy Frog and therefore an album can be expected. It is also clear that they’re creating a sound that sounds like more with straight rock instruments like guitars, drums and keyboard. In their band info, this musical experience is described as follows: “Like a sonic spanking with enough charm to make you forget that you’re actually being beaten by hardcore, insisting and arrogant pop tunes. It’s mind-boggling, it’s original and it’s having a hard time taking itself as seriously as it is expected to be done here. “That’s Beta Satan for you – hope you enjoy.”
