On 9th & 10th August, THE event of the scene took place with the M’era Luna. Already on Friday most of the 23,000 dark clothed attendees arrived on the festival grounds to build up their tents and put on their enormous wardrobe; at best festival weather, DELAIN opened the festival weekend on Saturday on the main stage. The medieval rockers RABENSCHREY, the cult band RED LORRY YELLOW LORRY and TANZWUT, who did their name justice, prepared the soil on which VNV NATION and FRONT 242 as headliners could vent their furies.
The hangar was right on par and at the latest with SAMAEL, MOONSPELL and PARADISE LOST it was full of dancing and partying people. For whom this was too much; or rather wanted to stay outside at best festival weather could enjoy this year’s medieval spectacle. The lovely decorated stalls and the moody torchlight lured many visitors; especially in the early evening hours and after the last bands.
On Sunday, grey clouds and rain passed over the festival grounds, but it couldn’t keep numerous fans from showing up to the opener MONO INC and having fun. Those who wanted to avoid the rain, focussed on the hangar, where the sweat was already dripping from the ceiling at early afternoon because of the dancing masses and sudatory shows of PAINBASTARD and ELEGANT MACHINERY. The highly anticipated HOCICO and the electro legend DAF made the hangar burn in the end.
After dark melodic indie rock sounds with goose bump factor of NEW MODEL ARMY, the FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM with their charismatic front man Carl McCoy and a healthy doze Gothic Rock brilliantly ended a successful festival.
“We’re very satisfied and happy that, according to the attendance figures, the M’era Luna in its 9th year still is one of the most important ‘Gothic Events’ in Europe; and for next year we again hope for visitors from all over the world, willing to spend a peaceful and moody festival weekend in Hildesheim with us.” Volker Koopmans, the organizer, sums up. “But we still have to work on the water pressure for the sanitary facilities, but I guess we found a solution with the city of Hildesheim until next year.”
