If the NME is right – and who’s to doubt that – then he’s the world’s best drummer and even if one’s taking the opinion of the NME as ‘not authoritative’ for their own judgement, it should have come to their ears that Jaki Libezeit isn’t just an icon of the drumming genre because of his significant contributions to the beyond-all-doubts albums with CAN, but because he has – outside of the CAN empire – a reputation that is rarely to be seen. Which club wouldn’t be pleased to call such a member one of their own? The Voodoo Club of Philip Boa doesn’t have to hope any longer. They’re glad because Jaki Liebzeit has joined the Voodoo club as new studio member. That can be heard on the upcoming new album of PHILLIP BOA & THE VOODOO CLUB. What’s to be heard there in the drum & percussion section has all been recorded by Jaki Liebzeit to the last note.Besides that, there’s some more new from the house of PHILLIPP BOA & THE VOODOO CLUB. He’s signed for the new album a contract with Rough Trade Distribution. “Rough Trade facilitated me my very first deal with an English label in 1986.” says Boa. “I think, together we’ve made a contemporary ‘record deal’, reacting on the market changes during the last years.”
So that the contract isn’t the only thing that reacts on the current changes of the market, the Voodooclub members are currently in the studio of producer Tobias Siebert in Berlin. The mutual goal – to get some new facets out of the stuck Rock/Pop music – has been pursued all the time. Until the end of the recordings our protagonists will have experienced “Challenging, musically intriguing and very intense recording sessions.” Of course Phillip Boa’s long-time musical companion Pia Lund is in on the party as well.
