Between electronics and progressive rock, Hip Hop and acoustic song writing ARCHIVE have created a sonic universe just following its own rules. Also their newest work ‘Controlling Crowds’ vibrates between light and dark, melody and noise, and aggression and transcendence. Rock guitars leave room for punchy Rap rhymes; synths meld with the power of guitars and complicated beats alternate with a straight-forward attitude. That’s ARCHIVE how they’re sounding nowadays, 15 years after the formation of the artist collective by Danny Griffiths and Darius Keeler who make up the cure duo ever since. ‘Controlling Crowds’ is a conceptual work in 4 acts about the unquenchable urge of mankind to get anything there is on this planet under its control.

This theme results in stories encompassing love, war, peace, chaos, blind hate and spiritual ecstasy. ‘Controlling Crowds’ tries to capture the world’s complexity in 13 songs and a cohesive framework. One can already be curious how that’s going to look in a live environment and with the chance of improvisation at hand which makes it even more of a must-see for those not caring about any genre boundaries. Mark this date red in your calendars, as on 16th January the Zeche in Bochum will be the place to be.
