The German Thrash Metal band DAVIDIAN was founded in 1997, but it was not until 2003 that their first full-length record ‘Abuse Of Power’ was given birth. With ‘Hear Their Cries’ (2007), the band first started gaining attention and five years later, ‘Our Fear Is Their Force’ is released throughout Massacre Records. DAVIDIAN play a mixture of modern Thrash Metal combined with Metalcore. The intro ‘F.SO.’ combines piano and stringed instruments, which then veers over to the opener ‘Behind An Angelic Smile’. The song mostly consists of mid-tempo riffs, with some faster parts and melodies joining in; the screamed, harsh vocals are very dominant and impellent. ‘Manmade Hell’ is in contrast a very fast-forward and brutal song, with a dark, whispered interlude - it is not only visible from the band’s name that MACHINE HEAD are a great influence for the musicians.
‘Fake Society’ marks another outstanding song, with lots of speed and brutality included. In addition, the production really suits the record well - it is very powerful, energetic and makes the riffs sound quite forceful. Yet, after the second run it becomes apparent that all songs sound very alike, with only small varieties in structure, instrumentation and vocal configuration. The music is well-made and the goal of combining Thrash Metal with a bit of Death Metal and Metalcore was surely achieved successfully, yet ‘Our Fear Is Their Force’ lacks originality and uniqueness - in nowadays music business, it is essential to find an own, remarkable style to stick out amongst loads of similar sounding bands.
