Album Review

THE NEW DIVISION started as a solo project of John Kunkel, as an amalgam of JOY DIVISION and the NEW ORDER, in 2005. This is easier to be said than to be done - need I to write here about the musicianship of these two bands? What you have in ‘Shadows’ is what you expect to be found here; early 80’s sounds, retro, at times nostalgic but most importantly dead. Let me repeat that; their music is dead. Bloodless and uninspired; it surely lacks the depth and the emotional integrity of JOY DIVISION and the extra sense of catchiness and fun to be found in NEW ORDER. By having a slow paced tempo as if the time stopped in 1979 and sound mixing and vocal aesthetics of about the same year the only thing that distinguishes it from its predecessors is that its sound is not monophonic much to the regret of the modern retro-maniacs.
