Album Review

SYNTHETICA is a Dutch band that has started out as a side project NAFTA-2 and evolved into its present form over the turn of this decade. Though a trio, information that can be drilled out comes out only with the names of the two members so feel free to shoot me down for listing just the two of them, I’ll be happy to oblige any stickler to minute details, I’ve no time for indefinite hunt and would rather get down to the music. ‘The End Of It All’ is their first full-length and within it they focus on, as the title suggests, apocalyptical themes. If the apocalypse is coming it seems to come to a cold and mechanised world as their sound draws out from EBM, Dark Electro and Dark Dance sonic families and the resulting soundscape is very futuristic.

One song that jumped out at me was ‘Rogue Black Hole’ with its sombre, darkly epic atmosphere. A song above all that lends itself most to a description of a soundtrack for the abovementioned apocalypse, the dance elements lend just a right contrast to it. ‘Eines Tages’ contains something of this also though it’s increasingly frantic and creates a feeling akin to panic and would suit a horror. As an album altogether it can be summed up as interesting, diverse and certainly the band is showing a lot of promise, especially I hope that they establish more confidence in their sound in their future projects.
