EP Review

The family business of the Teichmann brothers Andi and Hannes started way back in in their infancy with the punk band TOTALSCHADEN. In their later lives, the brothers would turn their focus on creating danceable, electronic music and would earn a lot of recognition for their efforts. Having released a string of EPs and vinyl already the time soon needed to come for a full length album. ‘The Number Of The Beat’ would be its title and it got released by the end of 2007 and presented live as support for UNDERWORLD. A couple of 12” were following in the coming years and now the latest EP ‘Brainwash’ is ready to hit the hearts of dance floor-addicted people everywhere. The lengthy title track opens the disc and even if you’re not into that stuff normally, you should check this out has a pretty intriguing build and the brothers riot here a lot with manipulating, chopping and filtering vocal samples, layering them onto a nice, playful beat. Duracell / E-Baby’ comes up with a rather funky and subtly house-inflicted beat, while the bitcrushed elements of the 80s-influenced piece ‘Stück’ deliver a dirty feeling. All in all, this has to be rated as a must-have for a DJ and for music fetishists with a sense for more ambitious dance music.
