POTHEAD

POTHEAD is a Grunge band from Berlin. The band's name derives from an Anglo-American slang expression to call marijuana consumers. The band was founded in 1993 by the two brothers Brad and Jeff Dope from Seattle. On a vacation in Europe at the beginning of the 1990s they got the idea to try their luck in Germany. So they settled in the German capital Berlin, where they met with some drummers until 1994 Sebastian Meyer joined the band.

Music
Storm clouds chased each other in the sky and the wind whipped through the deserted streets, more a beginning for a good horror movie than an entertaining evening POTHEAD concert. Only a few fans gathered in front of the entrance and I already feared that the bad weather could chase them away and hardly anyone will come tonight. The fans of POTHEAD are an absolutely colourful mixed bunch of lovable maniacs. At 9.30 pm despite of my fears the hall respectably filled to the last corner, Grunge-Rock of a special kind started to hammer down from the speakers and POTHEAD supported by the smoke flowing from the stage ensure that none of their fans would forget this evening.  The three guys on the stage give their best from the start on even the unusual strange voice of the singer took part to produce a peculiar and harsh charming music.

Extremely crude played drums which slide your pants to the knees with each stroke followed by a hard played bass-guitar which hammered a fist in your stomach fuelled up   the already burning fans in front of the stage. A weaving sea of moving bodies and heads carry the hard riffs around. All get seized from the hammering bass only to get smashed from the voice of the singer this is probably a trademark of POTHEAD and all the fans in front of the stage celebrated a truly big party.

Performance
I couldn’t say much about the show of POTHEAD because the movements and announcements were reduced to an absolute minimum of action and many waxworks had more life than this show. The individual songs were not announced and just played one after another. I even got sometimes the feeling they changed their bassist with a doll cause his only motion was to check his microphone and occasionally smile. POTHEAD was musically speaking nothing new to me and could not really inspire me this evening, but most of the fans certainly could enjoy the concert even more than me. I could say in conclusion it was a pleasant evening with an average musical performance and a completely lacking show.
