Electronic Body Music and Industrial, Synth Pop and Electro-Pop: details of the first Popkomm Festival showcase have now been finalised, promising a long night of energy-laden and synthesized sounds. A number of bands from an electro-scene that incorporates many different styles, some well-established and others still on the way up, have been announced for the “Advanced Electronics Festival” on Thursday, 9 October 2008, at Berlin’s Kulturbrauerei.

More acts than ever before are keen to participate in the Popkomm Festival, taking place in Berlin from 8 to 11 October, and 2,000 applications have already been received from 35 countries. The management of this event has now confirmed details of the programme for this showcase. Fixmer/McCarthy, Mesh, Sono, Solar Fake, Santa Hates You and Akanoid will all be appearing at the venue known as the Kesselhaus, at the Kulturbrauerei.

Fixmer/McCarthy is a side project by Douglas McCarthy, vocalist with the British EBM legend Nitzer Ebb. His second album, made together with the French techno producer Terence Fixmer, was a recent release. Sono are known as one of Germany’s most exciting electro-bands. This trio, from Hamburg, has already featured in the US Billboard charts and has made remixes for Rammstein and Rosenstolz. Solar Fake is the brand new future pop project by the Dreadful Shadows / Zeraphine singer Sven Friedrich. Since their foundation in 1992 Mesh from Bristol have evolved into a synth-pop institution. Peter Silles, the mastermind and singer for Project Pitchfork, is the man behind Santa Hates You. A newcomer from Germany, Akanoid, bases its sounds on those of American industrial rock. The evening will conclude with the Hardbeat DJ team (Sven Enzelmann and Inga Uphoff) from Hamburg.

“This evening will offer a fascinating overview of all the different forms available within the electro genre”, says Eric Burton of Hardbeat Promotion, “and Popkomm is the ideal platform for acquainting a wider audience with bands which, in some cases, are already very prominent within their own scene.” Hardbeat Promotion is collaborating with neuWerk Music Management to organise the “Advanced Electronics Festival” for the second time at Popkomm. The Hamburg-based agency is also responsible for compiling the series which is being distributed under the same name through SPV. The latest of these, “Advanced Electronics Vol.7”, will be available this autumn. Sonic Seducer has agreed to act as press partner for the evening. Published in Oberhausen, this is one of the leading German specialist magazines devoted to the alternative and electro scenes. The showcase is also the focus of a presentation on the myspace.com social community.

Tickets for the “Advanced Electronics Festival” are now on sale. Admission will be open to holders of Popkomm tickets for the Kulturbrauerei. The combined ticket (admission to 8 locations at the Kulturbrauerei) can be purchased in advance at a cost of 12 euros, or will be available for 15 euros from the box office at www.heckticket.de as well as at all the usual advance ticket outlets.
