A-LIFE DIVIDED formed eight years ago from the root of Prog Rock, they’ve changed their direction combining Rock, Metal, Electro and Goth elements together, and with a new name they set off to record two albums ‘Virtualized’ (2002)and ‘Far’ (2004) with which they toured as an opening act for OOMPH! Their third ‘Passenger’ is to be released soon hence this introduction single.
‘Heart on Fire’ starts with the self-titled song which carries on with post-Violator DEPECHE MODE sound, wrapped more industrial, and soon turns into a strong rock anthem, lyrically they revoke the theme of thwarted, unrequited love. The second song ‘Sounds like a Melody’ is a great cover of ALPHAVILLE classic. It was included on their first album already and proved to be popular hence its re-inclusion here. They build on the given song superbly, flesh it and give it full blooded pulse and a great sense of urgency and their own mark whilst still preserving the classic’s best features. Pure full-blooded belter, epic! No wonder ALPHAVILLE’s Marian Gold is said to be their admirer.
Having supported EISBRECHER as well, their producer and guitarists Noel Pix has lent A-LIFE DIVIDED his assistance in producing a solid last track ‘Hey You’ (which turns out not to be a cover of PINK FLOYD!). This selection is showing their more subdued side, less of the Metal and darker, harsher sounds, maybe to go slowly and hit harder with the album, either way, let’s hold the horses guessing what their new album is going to be like and enjoy this single for it is worthy. Many bands fusing different styles often miss the mark but A-LIFE DIVIDED manages to hit it just fine. I think they still have a lot more to offer and I hope that the future will prove it as a case.
