Album Review

GLAMOUR OF THE KILL is one the rising, more noticeable acts of the UK in the wave of crossbred metal and rock. Touching on a sound that is similar to ASKING ALEXANDRIA's new material and other groups like MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, the band focuses on rhythm and driven rock anthems injected with aggressive shots of metal and churning music capabilities that make them attractive to a younger setting. On their second album, 'Savages,' the band unleashes their more “metal side” with screaming vocals and chugging guitars on ‘Break’. Of course after this they settle more in the hard rock oriented category with pieces like ‘Second Chance’ and ‘Live For The Weekend’ which are more melodic and also feature blended in electronic elements to make the sound more varied.

Unfortunately it feels like GLAMOUR is moving farther and farther away from their metal roots with each track. While their sound is certainly attractive and appealing with the strong production values and the catchy ring of the chorus, tracks like ‘Rescue Me’ and ‘The Only One’ sound like the band is stretching for “single city” which produces lots of radio friendly pieces, but also makes track like ‘Break’ a much rarer, more interesting piece. The guitar/ instrumental work is certainly metal oriented when considering a track like ‘Heartbreaker’, but the overall atmosphere is just not quite as hard hitting as it was on their debut. Still, the direction is a pleasant one as each track stands on its own without any filler between it and the subtle vocal harmony between all the members, especially on a track like ‘Welcome To Hell’, which is not a VENOM cover, shows the band's strength that they still have the capability to be one of the top upcoming acts in modern rock/ metal today.
