Album Review

A band from Cuxhaven with a name that is referring to a mountain at the Costa Blanca… of course their first release has a lot of maritime issues within their presentation. Likewise rough-and-ready as their “image” is the music, MONT GO is offering to the audience on ‘Odyssee’. First and foremost that fact is due to the rough vocals of Stephan Wagner Krüger that sometimes reminds me of Campino from THE TOTEN HOSEN. In fact, THE TOTEN HOSEN is one of that bands that could be an idol for MONT GO as well as SPORTFREUNDE STILLER. Rough singing, distinctive guitar parts and some variety by using synthies set out the corners of the release and although being mainstream for sure, MONT GO manages to show own qualities. Unfortunately, the lyrics cannot persuade me, because every now and then, they’re too pathetic in my opinion. ‘Odysee’ somehow is the name of the game… some parts of this release shows what MONT GO is able to do. On the other hand, there are songs that are nothing more than usual mainstream stuff. I’d like to recommend that release to the audience, but I can’t from the bottom of my heart. All I can do, is suggesting to listen to ‘Odyssee’ and make up your own mind.
