Album Review

I have to admit that I’m not a great fan of the modern Progressive Metal. It is not that the bands do lack talent or something. The problem is that they cannot control the input of their ideas, to transform them into striking songs and they are consumed into a boring exhibition, a sort of a contest for their skills. The LIQUID HORIZON is no exemption to that. Even more, it is the sort of the band that when one sees it live he would admire it and would say “wow” but this will last for about half an hour till the big name comes and erases everything from memory.

The band has formed 11 years ago, deeply influenced by the DREAM THEATER and SAVATAGE. This is their third album, and the first one with worldwide promotion but I’m afraid that they are not what they promised to be in their second album, ‘Revolutions’. It is true that their lyrics are still of a high level, so are their technical and musical skills and one should not forget to mention the great voice of Oliver Kilthau. Maybe the best moment of the album is the ‘Crown of Creation’ where the classical guitars are wonderfully intertwined with the electrical ones and it serves as an indicator of what the band might accomplish in the future.

But right now, after listening to the album a couple of times I put on to listen to HOLOCAUST’s ‘Heavy Metal Mania’. Sometimes the less is by far the more...
