- Darkly presented Gothic pop ranging between opera and theater - portraying real life theatrics - a duo of two artists who neither keep silent nor turn a blind eye - but apart from their art put a great emphasis on social commitment as well -
They have come to put a theatrical Gothic pop fairytale on stage filled with darkness, morbid romanticism and sharply accentuated emotions: on August 28th the duo SCHNEEWITTCHEN will release its new album ‘Keine Sekunde Schweigen’ via Ariola/Sony Music thus making a colourful statement letting the colour BLACK play the most important leading part.
Artistically, the Hanover based Thomas Duda and Marianne Iser coming from Magdeburg serve a wide field, ranging between theatrics, colourful pop melodies, atmospheric provocations and that kind of drama which can be both charmingly opera-like and graceful as well as screamingly strident. However, it would be wrong to describe those two as being detached or out of touch with reality : they always use their lyrics to reflect rather serious aspects of life - letting the listener ever sense that art to them means much more than sheer orchestration.
The duo constantly works with several psychiatric institutions in Magdeburg sheltering children and adolescents setting up music videos or theatre plays together with the young people or providing workshops treating composition and songwriting. Matching the meaning behind their title song ‘Keine Sekunde Schweigen’ SCHNEEWITTCHEN thus raise their voice to fight against social discrimination.
SCHNEEWITTCHEN do not have any fear of contact neither with the young people in need of psychiatric treatment nor with fellow artists coming from other fields of entertainment. According to this attitude, last year they presented the premiere of a musical theatre play in cooperation with the Ballet of the opera Magdeburg and the Cuban choreographer Gonzalo Galuera. The main focus has been put on the exceptional form of expression the duo operates with, which may seem sometimes odd or even crooked at first sight, but ultimately represents a highly aesthetic demand communicating deeply felt poetry.
The duo has been nominated for the Hessian cabaret price with their song ‘Kaltes Hannover’. It was indeed the cold Hannover, or rather the nearby town of Hildesheim where it all began for those two. It was there where the two of them first met and got artistically acquainted with one another. The current album ‘Keine Sekunde Schweigen’ has been produced in Hannover and the relevant video has been realised through the Hannover based filmmaker and cult director Nils Loof.
‘Keine Sekunde Schweigen’ (silence not for a second) will consequently be the theme on June 16th, in the Munich backstage area, during the Greentunes festival - SCHNEEWITTCHEN have been engaged as live act to raise their voice on the occasion of this ecologically& politically motivated festival.
