Post-metal super group PALMS, featuring DEFTONES’ vocalist Chino Moreno and former members of ISIS, have just released their self titled debut album. Guitarist-keyboardist Clifford Meyer, Bassist Jeff Caxide and drummer Aaron Harris are responsible for the bands ‘delicately orchestrated guitars and pulsing rhythms according to an MTV news item, while Chino takes care of the distinctive vocal sounds and whispers.
According to Chino, who was interviewed by MTV’s Hive, the balance between heaviness and jazzy, post-rock is what shows the all roundness of the artists. To float between these extremes proves to be a good dynamic for the band members. The songs on PALMS’ debut are described as cinematic, referring to landscapes, regions and locations such as ‘Patagonia’, ‘Mission Sunset’, ‘Tropics’ and ‘Antartic Handshake’, although Chino indicates that they are mostly inspired by landscapes in a more cryptic way. PALMS’ debut album ‘Palms’ was released on the 25th of June at label Ipecac.
