JACK STRIFY – an artist between DIY and mainstream! That is possible as well. The history of an artistic reconsideration. New wave, synth wave or rather pop? The artist and singer Jack Strify from Berlin blurs consciously genre boundaries with his sound and his vision in order to let his songs sound more authentic and more alive. “My music taste was always diverse. During my teenager years I was always too rock for the pop people and too pop for the Goth kids. I never truly belonged anywhere, why should that be any different for my music now?”, he explains. “I have enough confidence in the created songs in order to release my first solo full length record now. The sound is a natural evolution of my EP, more mature, more diverse and even more universal”, says Jack Strify. “Depeche Mode, Yazoo and Visage can definitely be picked out as influences on the record but also contemporary electronic pop music like La Roux, Hurts or Goldfrapp. Beside science fiction literature and films, especially ‘Brave New World’ and ‘Metropolis’. David Bowie is also one of my great heroes who definitely influences me unconsciously all the time. The record reflects my journey of the last years lyrically, I think. It's often about letting go and moving on. I called the record ‘ILLUSION’ because it comes naturally to me to fall in love with illusions and after all, I rather have my illusions than nothing at all. What is real anyway?”
