This autumn, Canadian band DELICA-M Was releasing its new album named ‘Driftbetween’ in US on Radio-Active-Music and under license by Mr. Kramm's (DAS ICH) label Danse Macabre in EU. With ‘Driftbetween’ it really feels like you are “drifting between” the past and the present while listening to this CD. Their (DELICA-M) sound is heavily influenced by the 80s electro music that's why sometimes it seems like you got one way ticket to the past.
DELICA-M’s "half electronic, half Synthpop, half Goth" blend of music captures the emotion of an unspoken word, a single moment. Apparently, that's why some lyrics consist of different incoherent pieces of the same dark story. There could be found lots of soulful deeply emotional words and experiences. They exactly express feelings and the atmosphere behind every song. That is a definitely one of the biggest advantages of DELICA-M. No doubt vocalist has quite pleasant voice, but from my point of view there could be more female vocals like in the songs ‘Syten’, ‘Better Believe This’ and ‘Pick up’! It makes band's music more sensual, profound and perfectly adds more sensitive feelings to compositions. The band brings listeners back to 80's with their fabulous electro music and sometimes distantly reminds Depeche Mode, but if you aren't a fan of that type of music you would feel a bit bored after few songs.
In sum, ‘Driftbetween’ sounds quite interesting and if you enjoy 80's electro music, you definitely should have a listen. That album has a great lyrics and pretty danceable melodies, but as it was mentioned before, it would not be a bad thing to add more female vocals next time and maybe few tracks with a bit faster tempo...
