Holland electronic project STATIK SKY finally releases the debut album entitled ‘They Look to the Sky’. The music is supposed to present a fine blending of old-school pervasive energy and modern dark appeal. I can’t deny the existence of all the above mentioned elements in the tracks yet you need time to notice them separately and then even more time to appreciate the compositions entirely. At first a listener may just notice that all the songs are definitely made for dance floors.
The album features 13 tracks, including the cover version of so-called classic rave anthem ‘In My Mind’ and 3 rather qualitative remixes by other interesting projects. The good thing about the record is that you need to listen to any piece off it to get a superficial idea about the whole creation and to decide whether it suits your taste or not. Of course the vigorous solid beats which are actually the main components of the songs’ structure instantly captivate one’s mind and it’s almost impossible to stand still. On the other hand there’s nothing more that deserves an attention at least if you are not an absolutely devoted fan of the genre. The tracks seem to be to monotonous maybe because of their length and don’t produce an impression of something very original. However the lack of originality of depth can’t prevent you from enjoying the sound and dancing.
