Album Review

TYSKE LUDDER is a German band that was founded in 1990 and staged a major comeback in 2006. They have a wide fan base and are considered to be an institutional cult band in Germany. The name of the band is translated to mean “German Whore” which is a perfect name for this band since their music is more then seductive! TYSKE LUDDER's new album is called ‘Diaspora’ and it is amazing! When I received the music to review I thought, “what a treat to be able to review an album from a band that has such a powerful sound and presence in their music.” This is a band whose music will make you stand up and pay attention!

The first song, ‘Templemount’, starts out with a deep Hebrew voice with electronic effects telling you about the adventure you are about to take! Throbbing electronic sounds underlie the deep voice with a sound of a train in the background. Its more like an introduction to what comes next. The second song, ‘Tempelberg’, starts out with drum beats then goes directly into the hard driven electronic sound we all adore! It is such an exciting song with the pounding electronic beats continuing throughout the song and the voice goes perfectly with the music. It is completely dramatic throughout the song. Following ‘Eugenix’ is a bit different then the previous song and is even harder then the first and has a great dance-able beat. The fourth song, Wallfahrt (Betonkater Edit)’ is even darker, starting with a pulsing electronic beat and voice pounding the listener into submission. ‘Diaspora’, which is the song the album seems to be named after, starts out slow but speeds up as it goes along. The powerful lyrics really carry this song to the greater beyond without limitations.

Next one, ‘Der Androgyne Held’, is my favourite song on this entire album. I cannot describe this song because it is beyond words the way it makes you feel when you hear it, anything and everything is possible. The struggle to get what is needed at any cost! The song starts out with the seductive throbbing beats this band is known for then a commanding voice starts and pulsates out perfectly with the beat describing the struggle and fight for what is right in the most poetic words which can be understood in any language if only through the music itself. The seventh song, ‘For Their Glory’ is also amazing and in English. The song starts out in a teasing way with a military like sampled voice then goes right into the throbbing electronic beats with great English lyrics. It makes you want to jump into a plane and start your mission shooting down enemy planes and fighting for glory! Eighth song, ‘Konstanzphaenomen (Blutstoerung Edit)’ is dark and contains heavy deep beats with the voice following the beat. The electronic sound follows through its course into something fascinating.

The ninth song, ‘Nur ein Traum’ is different then a lot of the other songs and seems to concentrate more on the voice then the music but is interesting in its own way. Next song, ‘Ueber Euch’, seems to be as powerful as a car crash with the electronic rhythms and beats. The eleventh song, ‘R.A.S.S. (Minus Vier)’, is a bit slower and starts out with rumbling beats following the deep driven voice and electronic sequence sounds . Song number 12, ‘Reiscraecker’, starts out with a firecracker like sound and the whole song is a lot of fun because it sounds like something is on fire and you have to hop around to put out the fire like the hot taste of Mexican food with hot spices in it. Ouch! Bouncing and fun hopping electronic sounds are contained in this song throughout. ‘Abgesang’ is just as fun, with the electronic bouncing and skipping beats that make you want to jump up and follow along. It reminds me of the bouncing melodic rhyming songs from childhood, yet in a more industrial and Gothic sense! Following ‘Merciless’ starts out in a really exciting way where you can clearly hear the synthesizers flowing out the music along with the beat and the dark voice following back in on itself to create something beautiful. What they are doing with the synthesizers is amazing in this song.

Song number 15, ‘Abgesang (Northborne-RMX)’, is a remix of a former song and excellent in its execution with perfect use of intricate synthesized sounds and beats along with an integrated voice. The last song ‘Maschinenstar (Minimal)’, is really interesting because it starts out more like its been influenced by soul like beats yet still contains the melodic electronic sound. Its put together in a really great way and turns out to be very modern, dance-able and just plain cool! I highly recommend that people go out and buy this album, don't walk, RUN and do not let anyone get in your way!
