Introduction

ABSTÜRZENDE BRIEFTAUBEN (crashing carrier pigeon) was a German punk band from Hannover. The band was founded in 1983 by Konrad Kittner and Mirco "Micro" Bogumil; Oliver Rosthal joined the band in 1993. In 1997 they broke up, but in 2002 they played a last concert with the original line up. Konrad Kittner died on 11th May 2006.

DVD Review

The DVD comes as a double DVD in a classical DVD-Case. The first DVD consists of a detailed documentary of the band’s history, a video clip which was recorded in the studio 2006 as well as outtakes and an audio recording of the last song ever ‘Punkrockrente’. The documentary runs over two hours, Konrad and Mirco tell about the founding, the development and finally the split of ABSTÜRZENDE BRIEFTAUBEN, stories about people, songs, concerts, fans, record labels, and other bands. The video clip from the studio run five minutes and shows the recording of the unreleased song ‘Punkrockrente’ which is included as a full audio version on DVD. The second DVD consists of two live shows - Düsseldorf 1991 and Hannover 2002, furthermore some video clips. The show of Düsseldorf (26th April 1991) runs about 50 minutes, the show of Hannover (10th August 2002) runs about 59 minutes. As video clips, the songs ‘Das Grauen kehrt zurück’, ‘Im Strandbad’, ‘Du brauchst es’, ‘Fett & Hässlich’, ‘Zuviel ist nicht genug’ and ‘Das Herz eines Boxers’ are included.

Conclusion

Altogether, the DVD set is a nice memory to an important German fun punk band of the 80ies and 90ies. Two concerts of different periods of band history, a detailed documentary and some video clips; a "must have" for fans and a commendation for all these who like punk.
