Album Review

German self-proclaimed melancholic dark rock band AMORTICURE doesn’t add anything new to the style with the second release entitled ‘A Bleeding Soul in a Dying World’. The material presented on the album is meant to be gothic rock but despite the lack of originality it produces a fairly good impression and may interest even sophisticated ones, especially with its promising beginning. The vocals here seem to be quite measured, calm even too calm sometimes sliding into somewhat narration instead of singing but it all goes until the chorus starts. Finally the voice becomes more emotional and the strength appears however such manner of singing perfectly combines with this unobtrusive, quiet music when the energy is mostly kept up by the drums and the guitars create an ineffable atmosphere. The next piece is more ambitious and more striking yet it reminds its predecessor a bit: there’s still a hint of slight gloominess which is not oppressive actually. Besides the smooth delivery of the material gives an opportunity to understand the lyrics to the full so the expressiveness of the songs only wins.

‘Past Praying for’ with its rich and at the same time solid sound makes a listener realize that the album is definitely worthy to listen to but it was just the beginning and it’s hard to guess what will follow. After deep and heartfelt but too short ‘You Hurt Me’ which evokes a response somewhere in the soul there comes a complicated composition oversaturated with sounds where the harmony is almost omitted on the other hand, all the components separately are self-sufficient and melodic. In some way everything mentioned above may apply to ‘Tonight’ only the end of which really pleases with the piano part. But the next track is a way more interesting although the music is a little bit harsh but this time the very impressive vocals and instrumental passage compensate everything. ‘When I’m Gone’ in my opinion is the best composition on the album and of course the final song called ‘Silence’ deserves a special attention. It totally justifies its title and you just want to listen to it without thinking or commenting. Thus ‘A Bleeding Soul in a Dying World’ turned to be sincere and mainly simple yet it’s not a shortcoming, on the contrary it makes the whole CD finely accessible.
