Electronic Progressive Pop veterans BIOMEKKANIK have signed a multi-album deal with Dependent Records. The Swedes’ forthcoming new album will be released in 2026 and their previous full-length, ‘Violently Beautiful’, will also be taken over by the label.BIOMEKKANIK comment: “Although BIOMEKKANIK have been silent for a decade, the songwriting never stopped”, Christer Hermodsson states. “As a result, our hard drives are filled to the brim with songs, rhythms, and words. BIOMEKKANIK are back! The original project is the brainchild of Christer Hermodsson after having a musical epiphany in 2005. Hermodsson is also known as the singer of other acts such as S.P.O.C.K and SPARK!. The frontman has furthermore produced renowned electronic bands such as AND ONE, CAT RAPES DOG, SISTA MANNEN PÅ JORDEN, PAGE among many others.
As a full-time producer, Hermodsson was working with bands from a huge variety of genres in studio. Particularly Metal bands became a vital inspiration for the formation of BIOMEKKANIK. When the debut album ‘State of Perfection’ was released in 2009, it climbed the German alternative chart DAC straight to #2 and lodged itself in up there for a full month. The title track ‘State of Perfection’ has meanwhile garnered more than a million plays on Spotify.
Success breeds demand, and BIOMEKKANIK became a trio in order to perform live. The band toured across Europe and performed at prestigious festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen, Bergwerk and ElectriXmas. They also accepted a support slot for VNV NATION and the Swedes became the first “real” band to perform live at one of Europe’s most famous Techno clubs - the Tresor in Berlin. Even though the sophomore album ‘Violently Beautiful’ (2014) turned out to be an even more ambitious undertaking, it again entered the DAC chart at a #3 position. To the surprise of most, the band went onto a hiatus after a few live shows as all members had started to pursue other projects.
Yet their songwriting never ceased and a lingering desire to release more music with BIOMEKKANIK kept the flame alive. When Hermodsson and long-time guitarist Mattias Johansson were finally ready to heed the pleading calls of their fans for their return, they found a new collaborator in the person of multi-instrumentalist Sandra Mattson from MORLOCKS, who had impressed Johansson on tour in the USA.
With the band complete and rumours about a new album beginning to circle, the re-formed trio received an offer to perform at Wave Gotik Treffen, which they accepted. Get ready for the next chapter of BIOMEKKANIK!
