INTERPOL have announced their new album ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’. It is the band’s first album in four years and also their debut on Partisan Records. The release is scheduled for 28 August. Alongside the announcement, the band have released the first two songs: the title track ‘This Mirror Weighs a Ton’ and ‘See Out Loud’.The album was produced by Andrew Wyatt (who has worked with the likes of ROSALÍA and CHARLI XCX) and mixed by David Fridmann (MGMT, SLEATER-KINNEY). Musically, INTERPOL expand their sound with strings, woodwinds, layered vocal harmonies, acoustic guitars and experimental sonic textures, whilst retaining their characteristic focus on rhythm and guitars. The album was recorded at Andrew Wyatt’s studio in Lower Manhattan - marking the first time in over a decade they have recorded in their original home city of New York.
The two new tracks showcase different facets of the album: the title track is atmospheric and builds up slowly, characterised by deep basslines and dense soundscapes. ‘See Out Loud’, on the other hand, feels more direct, with striking guitars, crisp rhythms and a dark, energetic dynamic. Notably, it features a rare lead vocal part from Daniel Kessler (for the first time since ‘PDA’ on ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’).
The album title emerged from an improvised vocal process by Paul Banks, in which melodies and lyrical fragments are developed simultaneously. Lyrically, the album revolves around themes of perception, reflection and emotional tension. The artwork was created by Addie Wagenknecht and is part of the collection at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Earlier this year, the band performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they debuted new material for the first time, including ‘See Out Loud’ and ‘Wings on Fire’.
Following this, the band will embark on an extensive tour: initially a 23-date North American headline tour, followed by shows in the UK and Europe. There, the band will perform at venues including the Outbreak Festival in London, before teaming up with BLOC PARTY for an 18-date co-headline tour.
