Interpol - “Antics 20th Anniversary Tour 2024” - Special Guest: Dust
For the 20th anniversary of ‘Antics’, INTERPOL announce new tour dates in Germany. The New York Indie Rock band will perform their second album in its entirety over four evenings in October 2024, along with some additional songs.
INTERPOL remarkably shoulder the heavy burden of their second album. ‘Antics’ is a worthy successor to the rightly acclaimed debut ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’, picking up the red thread and once again showcasing influences reaching back to the late seventies and early eighties. But please, let’s not shout for Retro-Rock and New Wave revival again, because what can the four educated guys from the perpetually boiling New York melting pot do about the fact that back when they were raging with Punk and Wave, they were still in diapers? Like RADIO 4 or THE FAINT, INTERPOL have internalized the spirit of that time and continue its sound with different means.
INTERPOL sound very English again as they play their ten dark songs, strongly influenced by THE SOUND, JOY DIVISION, or CHAMELEONS. The always elegantly dressed men, reminiscent of THE GODFATHERS, excel in developing melodies on ‘Antics’, slowing down the tempo (‘A Time To Be So Small’, ‘Next Exit’) or picking it up (‘Evil’), and coaxing chords from the guitars that haven’t been heard in a long time. Perhaps the highlight of the album is ‘Slow Hands’ with its fast, dry riffs that even FRANZ FERDINAND couldn’t have done better. An album that ranks among the highlights of the not exactly low-key year 2004, thanks to RADIO 4, FRANZ FERDINAND, WILCO, MODEST MOUSE, or LIARS.
