Album Review
The new album from the prolific offerings of Sven Rebentisch is pretty damned sound. Starting with an electro orchestral offering 'Single' he's got a good driving melodic stamp going which is contrary to the next track, 'Zittern', being much more balladry and less catchy by far but very different. He's been around a long while which probably explains why the mix is so good but 'Sommertraum' falls flat for me being really 80's (and not in a good way). I find some of the flippancy of the album a little tiring in places but I can't really identify any bad tracks, it's just a matter of personal taste more than anything and maybe unfortunate that 'Leg' dich zu mir' comes next which I also found a bit dated style-wise and likewise 'Keine Zukunft' did little to raise my hopes. 'Tod im Wald' however redeemed the ones who had gone before nicely being dark and brooding and far more my personal cup of tea.
'Longing' although slow and in English as opposed to German is another track that for all it's perfect mastering leaves me wanting of it and if it were not for tracks like 'Dein Biss' I'd have grown bored with the mix of perkiness and darkness a long time ago. For me this is the track of the whole album, relentless, driven and intriguing. 'Befreien' is a good follower and 'Hoffnungsschimmer' starts interestingly enough and is brave but not really anything I'd ever crave to listen to repeatedly although the closing track proper ' Angst' is a great offering but following it up with a remix of the same track is, in my opinion, a questionable decision, especially since the remix isn't as engaging as the original. I like what this trio is trying to achieve and no-one can doubt the integrity of the album but, although well delivered, it was just a little too cheery for my taste.
