The German project REBENTISCH is already around a few years and has built up a great and loyal following with its releases through the years. On 13th March the newest release ‘Herz zerrissen’ emerged on the horizon.
The opening track ‘Angst’ takes you into spherical worlds with textured piano lines before the rhythm hooks up and Sven Rebentisch’s saddening vocals drift through reverberating corridors. ‘Erinnerungsfetzen’ just as well has a very melodic start but once the up-tempo beat starts and Sven starts singing aggression dominates the scenery which is bleeding out of his voice constantly. ‘Danach’ comes in a very retro sound styling on the electronic side. Reminds heavily of something WELLE:ERDBALL would do and adds purest Wave to it with distinctive guitar and bass lines mingling in ringing synth melodies as well. With ‘Reis(s)ende Gedanken’ we’re taking a trip to the shores of an unknown land to watch the perpetual playing of the waves. Accordingly the mood of the track is soaked with melancholy and one’s getting the feeling sometimes that the vocals are close to drown inside the thick textures the song unfolds. The last original track of the disc called ‘Abschied [Für Immer]’ turns out to be an instrumental where minor organ keys spend melody and classic wave chords wave through the room while a combined rhythmic section of electronics and percussion gives the beat.. For good measure the album features 3 remixes of older songs e.g. ‘Neongift’ that with its lyrics perfectly reflects large parts of our society underlined by trip hop beats.
The album presents a big palette of moods and emotions mainly through the wide textures and even more Sven Rebentisch’s voice. Fans sure grabbed a copy of it already everyone else might wanna check out some samples first as I don’t think it will appeal to everyone.
