LALAH aka Dörte Benzer is composer, singer, drummer and on good days a poet. In her Hamburg studio Raffinade, she’s recording the songs and in-between she’s travelling to Denmark to compose time and again or designs covers for Mangas if she needs money. She loves movies like Fargo and in summer she likes to swim or hang around. Her mainly self-produced album ‘Ich wär soweit’ is going to be released on 2nd February 2009. LALAH is being featured on the album by JOHNY LIEBLING (Universal Jazz) and OCKER (Popup Records). So far she’s performed on albums by PUNCH TB and HIPPIEHAUS, played live on the South By Southwest Festival in Austin and at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York, booked together a small tour via internet and played live and solo with MD-Player at Poetry Slams in Harlem and as special guest at the legendary Friday Night Slam in Nuyorican.

“Every song has its own character and the enveloping production was perfectly customized for them.” says LALAH, so you find - besides her self-produced and programmed tracks - remixes by J.F. Sebastian (BLACK CHERRIES) and also songs recorded live by Johnny Liebling at Hamburg’s Soundgarden Studio. The record was co-produced by Chris v. Rautenkrauz (e.g. BLUMFELD, TOCOTRONIC) and Nils Kaziereck (PLEXIQ, STATION17). The album is full of catchy sings you can listen to over and over again and still has many edges, having their own beauty by leaving them untouched. LALAH’s access to song-writing is unique and unheard. She’s breathing stories, blends minimalist old-school electro with her melancholic, lazy, jazz-tinged voice that makes warm and sexy stories.

Everything’s always based on great pop melodies, pulsating beats and old, new stories, gliding to one of those nights, when the temperature of the breath and air stream are almost equal. To cut it short: LALAH awakens memories, makes hungry and smells pretty good.
