Swedish independent label Electric Fantastic Sound, established in 2005, has signed a worldwide distribution deal with IRIS, the leading digital distributor with over a hundred outlets around the world. Founded in 2003 IRIS provides technical, marketing and legal services to independent labels such as Burning Spear, Le Tigre, Ghostly International and IRIS has helped labels navigate the emerging digital marketplace though online stores such as Apple's iTunes, Napster 2.0 and Real/ Rhapsody as well as mobile outlets such as AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Electric Fantastic Sound has during its two years created an impressive catalogue with over 50 releases by mostly new and emerging artists, all within the electronic genres. Founder and President Johan Billing says "It has been our goal from day one to make releases available to music lovers all over the world, without having to stick to the traditional ways of distributing music on compact discs by using the internet as our main distribution channel."

The benefits of only releasing music digitally are numerous - production costs are lower, distribution is easy and there is no need to keep a storage hall of crates of CD's, waiting to be shipped or destroyed. "These obvious benefits are just sound economics but we get the ecological benefits as a bonus" says Billing and states that the label is applying for a seal of approval from the Swedish national board for environmentally friendly companies. "We get to release great music by great artists and we get to do it without affecting the environment. No physical products means no physical transports - we're just shuffling data around the world and this is where we feel IRIS will help us reach an even broader market."

Electric Fantastic Sound, based in Malmö, Sweden has previously focused on the Scandinavian market, but with the signing of the distribution agreement with IRIS, based in San Francisco, California the aim is now worldwide...
