On 17th April 2009, ‘Sounds of the Universe’ the meanwhile 12th studio album of DEPECHE MODE was released and after only two days reached gold status for a 100,000 sold physical copies. Also the digital album is a mega seller and since its release it’s in the top-selling ranks of ITunes and Musicload.

The album is available as standard CD, CD & DVD, 2LP & CD, as well as an extensively designed box set with all a fan’s heart can desire. On 3 CDs there’s besides the album exclusive b-sides, remixes and demos; On DVD you can find filmed studio session, a 5.1 mix of the album, two movies, the EPK and video. Furthermore the box comprises two photo books, a poster, postcards, and a sticker.

Since the foundation of DEPECHE MODE in 1980 the band sold nearly 100 Mio CDs worldwide and played live for over 15 Mio people. In Germany every studio album of the band since the 1993 release of their album ‘Songs of Faith and Devotion’ as well as the singles comp ‘The Singles 86>98’ in 1998 and a Best-Of release of the band in 2006, reached the top of the album charts. A collection of the best DEPECHE MODE remixes reached #2 in Germany in 2004. The international sales figures off the last album ‘Playing the Angel’ cracked the 3 Mio mark worldwide. The album became #1 of the album charts in 18 countries as well as Top 10 in Canada and the US. In 7 countries the album was certified gold or platinum; in Germany even with double platinum for 500.000 sold copies. On the following tour DEPECHE MODE played in front of 2.5 Mio people in 31 countries.

DEPECHE MODE will start their world tour in support of the current album on 10th May 2009 in the first part of which the band’s going to play shows in 28 cities in 22 countries in front of 1.3 Mio people. It’s the first tour since the very successful ‘Playing the Angel’ tour in 2006 where the band sold 1.6 Mio tickets for a total of 87 concerts. Just Yesterday further dates for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have been announced since the 8 stadium shows in Germany in June are nearly sold-out.
