The Norwegian black metal formation SATYRICON was founded in 1990 by Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven, Håvard “Lemarchand” Sørensen, Vegard “Wargod” Blomberg and Carl Michael “Exhurtum” Eide. Since 1994, the band has been consisting of Satyr and Kjetil “Frost” Haraldstad who are supported by additional musicians live on stage. By releasing the debut album entitled with `Dark Medieval Times´, SATYRICON caused quite a stir in the scene as they combined black metal with acoustic guitars and flutes. Generally, their music was able to impress critics and fans as well due to varied stylistic influences making SATYRICON´s work appear multi-faceted and innovative.
Up to now, the band has released all in all seven long-players such as `Nemesis Divina´ (1996), `Rebel Extravaganza´ (1999) and `Now, Diabolical´ (2006). The latter one and the most recent `The Age of Nero´ were released at Roadrunner Records in Europe. At the end of the year 2009, the formation is going to tour European cities supported by SHINING, POSTHUM and DARK FORTRESS. On 17th December 2009, the Norwegians will turn the Frankfurt Batschkapp into a really dark place.
