Album Review

It is the year of Our Lord 1987. It is the year that the Tower Commission rebukes U.S. President Ronald Reagan for not controlling his National Security Council staff in the Iran-Contra affair and the year that EDEN’S CURSE release their album ‘Trinity’. What? It isn’t 1987 but it is 2011? And the QUEENSRŸCHE had released their ‘Operation Mindcrime’ in 1988? Well, that could only mean that EDEN’S CURSE lost their opportunity to be glorified. And be forced to create a copy-paste album, with religious references instead of revolutionary ones, fake rebellions that appeal to students in religious schools, lukewarm melodic riffs, a voice that tries to imitate Geoff Tate, a sound that tries hard to look like QUEENSRŸCHE’s and a music that is Progressive Metal but poses as Melodic Metal in order to hide the aforementioned references. In a way it is a concept album as well; some kids break through a sinister religious institution then through many adventures and ‘Satan’s’ pits they manage to find their “souls” and become ‘Rock N’Roll Children’. What’s all that fuss for? For this cover of a classic DIO song? Or for something else?

In January 2006, Paul Logue of CRY HAVOC and singer Michael Eden decided to form EDEN’S CURSE. They intended to create great music to astonish fans worldwide and that would make people start asking questions. They ended up with ‘The Second Coming’ in 2008 and the ‘Trinity’ in 2011. Nice. At least the sound quality is truly magnificent, but because your last name is Eden that doesn’t mean that you have to write songs about religion, breaking ties with religion, saving your soul etc, which has been done million times before to be so arrogant to posit that you are the one who makes others question. Patronising the listeners doesn’t seem that great a ‘battle plan’ as they saw their plans for the band, nor is robbing music out of QUEENSRŸCHE, if they at least did it with love for the great band, but they did it for a quick formula to success. I’m simply not buying it.
