Album Review

GRAVE DIGGER are one of the early German Heavy Metal Bands, formed in 1980 they disappeared in 1986 to play a more commercial sound under the name DIGGER. In 1991 they returned and play pure Heavy Metal again, which was very rare in the 90s. Now over 20 years after their reunion they are still playing Heavy Metal in their own old-school way. They are like TANKARD or GAMAM RAY a musical institution where you get what you expect. Some are people love it some are bored.

The new album ‘Return of the Reaper’ gives the listener typical GRAVE DIGGER in their very own style with the typical rough vocals of singer Chris Boltendahl. The song ‘Tattooed Rider’ has some very JUDAS PRIEST like parts. In the whole, ‘Return of the Reaper’ is 100% of what GRAVE DIGGER have expected, for me it is once too often repeating (“reapeating”) the old stuff without innovation, in the 90s and pre 2000s it was quiet outstanding, but for nowadays it is much to limited for me. For the fans of GRAVE DIGGER fine, but for the others maybe a little bit too driven into a very limited ground.
