Beware, maggots! SLIPKNOT announce the ‘Slipknot (25th Anniversary Edition)’ - a deluxe reissue of their iconic, self-titled debut, which catapulted the band into the spotlight in 1999. This special edition not only celebrates the album’s release, but also documents the exceptional creative state the nine musicians from Iowa were in at the time: from newly signed metal newcomers to an unstoppable cultural force of nature that redefined the genre for an entire generation.
The 25th Anniversary Edition will be released digitally and physically on September 5th, 2025 via Roadrunner Records. Yesterday, a strictly limited special version went directly to the fans - 100 copies with “blood filled” vinyl, exclusively available via the secret site 742617000027.net. Sold out within seconds, the set promptly crashed the server. A 6LP box set on blood-splattered vinyl (limited to 1899 copies) is now available for pre-order, along with 2LP, 2CD, and digital versions on all streaming platforms.
Depending on the format (see full overview and pack shots below), the reissue includes the original album produced by Ross Robinson, complemented by recordings that were previously only known to the band and their closest circle - directly from the original sources: unreleased takes, alternative versions, and mixes from SR Audio, Indigo Ranch, and more, including test mixes from other producers. This edition is not only a time capsule of the creation of an iconic album, but also meticulously traces how Slipknot became the band that dominates the stages of the world today.
At the same time, the band is releasing the previously unreleased demo of ‘Prosthetics,’ which was created before the recordings at Indigo Ranch - and later found its place on the debut album in a revised form.
As much as the debut album laid the foundation, the live impact of SLIPKNOT in 1999 was just as crucial. Anyone who was at one of their early gigs back then will certainly not forget what was going on. The first world tour quickly became a legend - the momentum unstoppable. Word of mouth spread like a virus.
This anniversary edition contains concert recordings that frame this chaotic first year. The 1999 concert at the small Webster Theater in Hartford, Connecticut, shows the raw energy of the early days, while the UK shows from 2000 document how SLIPKNOT transferred this intensity to the big stage. The recordings come directly from the digital tape of the FOH soundboard, have been remixed and remastered for the first time - selected by the band personally to capture the wild early phase as authentically as possible.
Now it’s time to share these recordings with the world.

More about Slipknot
Released on June 29, 1999, SLIPKNOT’s self-titled debut album quickly became a critical darling and an instant classic with fans. It was certified double platinum in the US, platinum in the UK, and reached number 8 in the German charts. Musically uncompromising and creatively radical, it shattered the conventions of the genre. Sure, the riffs bit, Robinson’s production burned - but it was the attention to detail in the songwriting that turned “strong” into a “statement.”
“We were proud of the album, but we had no idea if anything would come after that,” recalls guitarist Jim Root. “We just wanted people to hear it. Sold-out records, full shows, successful tours - those were dreams, but for us, it all became reality.”
Over the years, the band not only surpassed their idols, but also defined an entire era with boundless energy, new ideas, and a love of touring. Ten billion streams, tens of millions of followers, 64 award nominations, 27 awards - including a Grammy for ‘Before I Forget.’ Headliners at Download, Rock In Rio, Wacken, Hellfest - and 14 platinum and 40 gold awards for over 30 million records sold.
With the founding of their own festival Knotfest (since 2012), SLIPKNOT built their own empire: a multinational frenzy on multiple stages, which has now taken place 28 times in various countries. And from that grew the platform Knotfest.com - today a media network for young creatives and like-minded people.
All of this makes SLIPKNOT a band for generations - loved by kids and parents alike. And with a fanbase that is as loyal as their music is uncompromising.
“Every time I go on stage, I don’t care how many people are there - my culture, the Maggots, is there anyway,” says founding member Shawn “Clown” Crahan with a grin.
