Album Review
MIDNIGHT CAINE was formed in 2007, underwent several line-up changes and ‘Mirrors’ is their third release, deservedly with Danse Macabre Records. I sometimes wonder what Gothic Rock would be if SISTERS OF MERCY, FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and THE CURE never existed. It’s difficult to come up with an answer, because I simply cannot un-imagine them as their legacy in the trend is so big; sometimes this comes out badly as pure idolatry or copy-cattism, but often quite well, with MIDNIGHT CAINE the latter is the case. Edged with a bit harder, more Metal-ish tinge yet always smooth, melodic and atmospheric the amalgam of their influences and their own flavour come superbly absorbed and pleasantly intertwined out into the open in all of the offered songs - they’re all wonderful to pick out individual favourites. Modern and yet nostalgic with lyrics shading many emotional moments it’s a beautifully spent time listening to it.
