Lake Street Dive - “European Tour 2026”
According to drummer Mike Calabrese, LAKE STREET DIVE sound like an attempt to bring THE BEATLES and MOTOWN together at a party. Indeed, the US band has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of Pop music with their influences from Soul, Folk, Jazz and Pop, and has long been known for its genre-spanning approach. This musical vision has not only been developed by the five-piece band - who are bound together by a strong bond of friendship - across their seven albums released to date.
On stage, too, LAKE STREET DIVE have long since established themselves as a highly regarded live act, building a strong connection with their audience from day one and having already toured worldwide. With their seventh album, ‘Good Together’ released in 2025, the band secured a Grammy nomination and once again expanded the breadth of their musical palette. In autumn 2026, LAKE STREET DIVE will return to Germany and play their biggest shows to date in Hamburg, Cologne, Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart.
LAKE STREET DIVE formed in 2004 after multi-instrumentalist Mike Olson, singer Rachael Price, bassist Bridget Kearny and drummer Mike Calabrese met at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Clearly influenced by their Jazz studies, their debut album ‘In This Episode’ was released in 2007, giving the first glimpse of the band’s sound.
Following the release of their album ‘Promises, Promises’ (2008), the self-titled album ‘Lake Street Dive’ cemented the band's sound and brought them to national prominence. The EP ‘Fun Machine’ (2012), with its blend of Pop, Jazz and Neo-Soul, and the track ‘Rich Girl’, saw the band break through on the international stage. This was followed by ‘Bad Family Portrait’, featuring the jazzy hit track ‘Better Than’. Lake Street Dive proved that, whilst the band had found their sound, they were keen to develop it further with their 2019 album ‘Obviously’, on which - according to Rolling Stone - they once again refused to think small, delivering lo-fi-influenced pop and a solitary intimacy.
This was followed in 2024 by ‘Good Together’, which stemmed from a mindset that the band describes as a “joyful rebellion”, as drummer Mike Calabrese explains: “There’s a lot to be angry about in the world right now - a lot of pain, anger and division - but it’s not sustainable to live constantly in that resentment; you need something else to keep you going.” Throughout the album, LAKE STREET DIVE reveal the immense diversity of their musicality and expressive imagination.
Whilst ‘Better Not Tell You’ brings a 1970s funk influence and dance vibe, ‘Far Gone’ drifts into the realms of Psychedelic Rock. The fact that the five members’ musical tastes were further apart than ever before at the time of the album’s release turned out to be a major advantage, as Price explains. “We manage to bring all these influences together with genuine love and respect for the diversity within the band,” which is rooted not least in the strong friendship between the individual members. “Everyone has a voice, everyone is heard, and we're all very careful when it comes to ensuring everyone is happy.”
